When you become a parent you naturally want to start taking pictures of your children and you will be so very glad you did as you will be looking at them for many years. I have a few suggestions that might help.

You'll want to keep taking pictures over the years and will want to take them as your children grow and also put them in albums by the dates they were taken. First of all, I would suggest taking a few pictures every week those first few years as children grow so quickly and change so quickly.

Try to avoid pictures that are posed: most of all, get the picture natural/candid if at all possible. The pictures will be so much more appealing. Also, don't have them standing there with a big fake smile on their face, children will naturally smile and laugh or because you're just talking to them as you photograph them. Children are natural and carefree and we should snap pictures of those attitudes.

If you have pets you will just be able to take so many beautiful and charming pictures of the children playing with or petting them. Just watch a child play and then take a series of pictures, maybe a few closer up than others.

Try not to wait too long to click the picture: don't make the child self-conscious. You might even have someone else interacting with the child to get the perfect picture.

If you take a picture of a child sitting on the floor playing, it is best to stoop down in a lower position than to just tilt the camera downward. With a low camera position you will be able to clearly see the features of the child.

You might even do a series of pictures of your child such as; seeing themselves in the mirror, tasting an ice cream cone, talking on the phone, or feeling a leaf of a pretty plant. There are so many times you will see your child doing something darling and want a picture, so have that camera ready, loaded with film and take those wonderful lasting pictures.
